Share your reflections

Liked how she got students to talk- they need to be able to expressive themselves, hear their voice, then go write it down.
Conference with first boy- she got him talking, allowed him to think more clearly.
Conferencing needs leading questions to get student to talk.
Focused on craft of writing and process, validated the students thoughts.
Give oppotunity to express themselves- use their words. Focus on content.
Lucy fluently moves through conferences. Parts- research, compliment, teaching phase.
"You're the spotlight" Hear their stories.
How do you get to the point where students will write about what is important to them. How do we build the trust? How do we help them get ideas to write?
5
What questions do you have for Mark Overmeyer?

What leading questions does he use during conferences to get children to think about their writing?
How do you teach conclusions to first graders?
How can we present information to kids other than auditory? Visual support?
How many pieces of literature do you use to guide instruction? Do you use new books or refer back to old ones?
4
How does your team plan on implementing Units of Study?

We are using it already. We have implmented Unit 1: Launching the Writer's Workshop and we are getting ready to get into Unit 2: Small Moments. We have incorporated Units of Study in our road map in order to work on a similar schedule as a team.
2
What do you need from Mary Ellen/Liz?

We need money or books for suggested literature to use during Writer's Workshop.
Can Liz help compile titles to use?
Can we get a list of books and where they are located?
Can we get a box in the library to pull from?
Can we compile a list of books teachers have come up with to share?
